NEW  WORLD  CALENDAR

Introduction

Julius Cesar did a superb job of coming up with the Julian Calendar 2000 years ago . Pope Gregory XIII used that calendar and amended it well over 200 yrs. ago to result in our present day Gregorian Calendar .

Our present calendar is not perfect as one may expect of something of its age. We currently have months with anywhere from 28 to 31 days, of which 20 to 23 can be Monday to Friday working days. Months start and end on all different days of the week. In this modern day of technology we should have a more workable calendar that could be used the world over .

The calendar that I propose would be simple and easy to use as well as easy  to transfer to from our existing one . This calendar would have 13 equal months of 28 days each . The main difference to our current calendar is the addition of World Peace Day. The World Peace Day would occur mid year and be in addition to our regular 7 days of the week . Leap Day would be done similar at the end of every 4th year.

Advantages are many. Listed below are a couple of the most significant advantages:

 ●   Every month has exactly 4 weeks with every month starting on a Sunday ; and
 ●   The calendar is identical year after year .

Other Advantages

In the current 12 month calendar Business and financial institutions who release quarterly reports, have to deal with the inaccuracies of the months varying in length, the number of weeks in a month varying and a year can end part way through a week.  This can be confusing and misleading.  The advantage of the new  calendar is each quarter has exactly 13 full weeks.  It would be quite easy to remember the quarters as :

---the 1st quarter includes the 1st week of March

---the 2nd quarter includes the 2nd week of June

---the 3rd quarter includes the 3rd week of September

At the same time birthdays would occur on the same day of the week every year . New meaning would be given to the term a "Sunday Baby", for example.

If you have ever been in a position in business, sports or entertainment where you have tried to co-ordinate annual events without conflicting with other events you know how difficult that can be using our existing calendar. The difficulty is that you have to decide every year which week or weekend the event will occur hoping that you are not conflicting with other annually held events.  The new calendar makes things much easier because each day of the year is in the same place as it was the previous year.

By inserting World Peace Day into the calendar it should become a much more meaningful day because everyone around the world would be celebrating it on the same day.  At present it is celebrated on several different dates around the globe.

Lunar cycles fit far better into a 28 day month .

The only negative comment so far is that of having a Friday the 13th every month.

Adoption of the new calendar:

Of course it will be up to the governments around the world to adopt the new calendar or it will not happen. Change of any kind no matter how beneficial comes with resistance.  Making a change like this would not be as difficult as it was for those countries who changed to the metric system.  Furthermore, the time has never been better, with communication technology at its highest in history. The advantages are many and for the benefit of our descendants .

If you are interested to see how the calendar can work for you,  print the new calendar and hang it beside your existing calendar.  Then number the days on your existing calendar from 1 to 365 as I've done on the new calendar.

Note: In a leap year do not give February 29 a number on your old existing calendar.  That situation will not arise until 2008, our next leap year.  After that compare dates like birthdays and anniversaries, etc. It is quite simple.

Remember, if you do not a least print the calendar there is a good chance you will forget about it.

My hope is that you will be convinced over time, that it is a good idea.

If you think it's a good idea or bad idea or if you have comments or questions let me know by emailing me at ben@newworldcalendar.com
